Our second big trip along the golden circle
Our first stop Thingvellir National Park

At the weekend the three of us explored the Golden Circle. First we are to Thingvellir National Park. It was a bit different there than we had imagined under a national park, we imagined something with lots of trees and bushes. Instead it was a hilly landscape with moss-covered stones.

Haukadalur (Geysir)

After this small, a bit disappointing stop we made our way to Haukadalur where different geysers could be found. The experience was really great to see how the pressure builds up in a geyser before it erupts. There we were able to take great photos and look at various small geysers that just boiled.

Gullfoss

After we visited the geysers and we were wet and hungry, we went to the adjacent restaurant. There was also a souvenir shop where we looked around. After we had a bite to eat and a drink there, we headed to the biggest destination we had planned, the Gullfoss waterfall. The Gullfoss waterfall is a waterfall of the river Hvítá in Haukadalur in southern Iceland. The waterfall belongs with Þingvellir and the neighboring geysers to the so-called Gullni hringurinn of Iceland’s most famous sights.

Arrived at the waterfall we took lots of photos and of course we met various German travel groups with whom we had a short chat. Of course we also went down to the waterfall where we got a little wet again. The waterfall was very impressive as the tons of water fell into the gorge. We also stood on the platform from which you could stand even closer to the waterfall.

Friðheimar restaurant

On the way to Selfoss we noticed that there was a greenhouse that you can visit. Of course we stopped there too, it turned out that there was a horse stable next to the greenhouse that offered performances with Icelandic ponies, for example the Icelandic gait tölt. After examining the horses in the pasture, we went to the greenhouse. In the greenhouse we found huge tomato plants climbing up the walls. There was also a restaurant where you could eat the fresh produce directly. They also offered to buy products to take home. The best impression was the fresh smell of tomatoes in the greenhouse. On the walls were bumblebee nests, the bumblebees are responsible for pollination.

Selfoss

Arrived in Selfoss we strolled a bit through the small town center the houses were very nice what we noticed very much that many houses were covered with corrugated iron.

That was our weekend we hope you could get a little glimpse into our Icelandic life.
